Daddy Time

Lucy loves spending time with Daddy. And Nothing beats a Dilly Bar from Dairy Queen. We also drive by Dairy Queen ALL the time and Lucy often chimes in with a request for ice cream.

I solemnly swear I'm up to no good!

While in Utah, I looked down the stairs and saw this. Lucy and Carson got into some mischief! Lucy reached up on the counter and pulled down the container with Jelly Belly's. They dumped them out on the rug and had a feast! Crazy kids.

Mischief managed.

Snow much fun!

I mentioned that Lucy was fond of Frosty the Snowman. Well here is her Frosty. She loved to watch the movie all the time, and she would talk about him all the time. When he first melted she said something like this: "Oh no, where Frosty? He melted! :( Poor poor sad." Then, last week as we were going to the garage (mind you we haven't had snow on the ground for a while) Lucy says "Where's Frosty? He melted"

Maybe it's time for us to buy a real slide, although Lucy had fun. This year she also loved to wear her pink boots and her pink hat with a fuzzy pom pom on top. Huggies are GREAT! (I really think this could be used as an ad for KC ;))

BE MINE

They did move Valentines to May, right? Sorry for such a delay, but here is my attempt to catch up. Valentines day for us was nothing fancy. We had plans for Wicked later that month.

Here is Lucy taking a bite out of Brad's burrito.

Lucy with her friend Lena, both saying "cheese"

Lucy was a fan of Frosty this year. You'll see more later.

2:25

For all those anxiously awaiting the news, I DID DO IT!!! I wanted to wait to post until I had some pictures, but that hasn't happened yet. I completed 13.1 miles in 2 hours 25 minutes. I'm so proud of myself. :) I ran the majority of the race with my sister Alyce. Around mile 10, I left her in my dust (or at least behind me—she runs at a slower pase). It was a beautiful day, and along the way we were all (Dad, Alyce, and myself) greeted by family. First by Mom, Ashley, Brooklynn, then by Brad, Lucy, Kelby, Tyler, Katie, Christian, and Hayden. And finally, the finish line. I thought it was never going to come. The last two miles were the hardest (obviously), but I was also in physical pain. My right hip and my left ankle were KILLING! (both are still bothering me—I have to limp). However, if you asked if I would do it again, the answer would be yes. I had a great time (and yes, I know I sound crazy). Thanks everyone!

Can I do it?

Notice the ticker to the right. I have only a few days before I am going to run a half marathon! Can I do it? I hope so. Running in Utah is tougher than Wisconsin (duh!). It is getting easier to breath, but the hills/mountains/any change in elevation? is not so fun. Tomorrow is the last run before the big run. Wish me luck!

On a side note, I'm in Utah until the first of April, so if anyone is around and wants to visit, let me know.

Today is also my sister Sarah's birthday. Happy Birthday Sarah! Glad to spend it with you. Love you!

October 29, 1906 — February 17, 2009

Yesterday was a sad day for the Hemmert family. Brad's Grandma, Bess Johns, passed away. She was an amazing woman who lived her life to the fullest. In her 102+ years, she had a family, traveled, read from her Bible everyday, gardened, made pastel drawings and other had crafts, and lots more. Everyone loved her. There are two things I will always remember about her. Her rings, and her sense of humor. She wore three rings. Her wedding band and wedding ring, which for most of her life she never took off. Her wedding band was very thin and sharp for all of the years worn next to her wedding ring. Her wedding ring had orange blossoms on it and was very beautiful. The other ring was a family ring. It consisted of two thin bands one representing the mother, the other represented the father, and sandwiched between those bands were three stones. One for each of her children. I would love to have a ring like that some day. As for her sense of humor, even in her old age she would make jokes. One day she was reading the paper on the back porch (obituaries) and said, "everyday I look to see if my name is in there (smile)" Well yesterday she must have seen it. We will miss her dearly. We love you.
